UpTogether Physical Pre-Paid Card FAQs

September 10, 2020 update: We currently can not take requests for replacement cards until after 9/28/2020. We apologize for this inconvenience. 

August 17, 2020 update: If you request another card (you never received yours or it was lost for example), you will not be able to activate your new card on your own at this moment. Our team is working on getting that second card onto your dashboard. To get it activated, please reach out to our Support Team and provide the name you used on your application, your email address (used for your application or phone #) and the last 4 digits of the card.

Getting a card

Who is eligible to receive a card?

Right now, anyone who is approved for COVID-19 relief funds through the UpTogether platform is eligible to receive a card. If you have a bank or other account that takes direct deposits, using that method will get you the funds faster. 

Do I need to enter a SSN or ITIN to get a card?

No, you do not need a social security number or ITIN to get an UpTogether card

Where will my UpTogether card be mailed?

Your UpTogether card will be mailed to the address you specified when you requested the card. 

How long does it take to receive my card?

You should receive your card within 7 - 10 days after requesting it.

What if I don’t receive my card?

If you don’t receive your card in 10 days after requesting it, click here to contact us to report the card as lost. 

Activating a card

How do I activate my card?

Click here for detailed instructions on how to activate your UpTogether Physical Pre-Paid Card. Please make sure you are logged in using the same method you used when you applied (either your email or phone #).

Using a Card

Where can I use the card?

You can use your UpTogether card anywhere credit cards are accepted. You can use it to do everything from pay bills online to buy items at a grocery story. It works online or at physical store locations where Visa credit cards are accepted.

How do I track the balance on my card?

Balances are shown on the Payment Methods tab of your dashboard. If you are using a second card (either because your first card was lost or stolen), you will not see that balance. We are currently working on changing that. So, in the meantime, we ask that you please keep track of your expenses so you know your balance.

Can I add more funds to my card?

No, not at this time.

What fees are charged?

You will not be charged any fees for using your card. If you lose your card and order a new one, you may be charged a nominal card creation and shipping fee ($3.50), deducted from the balance on your card.

Can I get money from an ATM with the card?

No. Technically, the card works as a credit card rather than a debit card. While you cannot withdraw cash from the card, you can use your card for in person or online purchases with any business that accepts Visa credit cards.

Can UpTogether see what I purchase when I use the card?

Yes, just like any other debit or credit card you use, your transactions are recorded and in the future will be available for you to review in UpTogether. We will not be able to see exactly what you purchased, only how much you spent and where. 

For example: We’ll see Amazon - $45 as the transaction, but we won’t be able to see what you bought. 

Does this card work for online purchases?

Yes. You can use this card online. 

Will I be charged every time I make a purchase?

No, this card works exactly like any other credit card. There is no transaction fee charged to you.

How much does this card cost?

There is no cost for using the card and no cost to receive your first card. If you lose your card and order a new one, you may be charged a nominal card creation and shipping fee, deducted from the balance on your card.

Does this card work internationally/outside the U.S.?

Yes, you can use this card outside of the United States. Foreign transaction fees may apply.

Are there foreign transaction fees?

A fee of 1% + 30¢ is charged for transactions made outside the United States. If the transaction requires currency conversion, an additional 1% fee will apply.

What if my card is stolen? 

To report your card as stolen, click here to contact us. We’ll need to know the last date you used the card. We will cancel the card, and let you know the next steps.
